Well, it's 4:00 a.m., one week before I hop on a series of planes and spend some quality layover time here and there on my way to Bangkok where the adventure begins. Actually, I expect the adventure will begin this week; well, maybe it begins now, as I sit hunched and sleepless in front of my computer... The packing up and moving out of the apartment, various bizarre little errands to run, the lists of contacts and emergency numbers to create, the car payments to schedule- basically the wrapping up of life as I've known it stateside for the last while becomes a reality that I seem to have decided to focus on at this ridiculous and tired hour. I'm certain there's something/many somethings I've forgotten. At least I've remembered to squander relatively enormous amounts of cash on various needed and not so needed things before I leave over the last few weeks. Another reason to be awake at 4:00 a.m., perhaps?
The relief in it all is that I've got reservations at a hostel for the first two nights in Bangkok, so my solo midnight arrival after almost too many hours of travel to count won't bring with it the confusion of trying to find a place to rest my bones. A five-dollar cab ride and two days/nights of jet lag are the things I have to look forward to- and I do, as now at least there's a semblance of a plan.
The excitement mounts...
