After much rain in La Ceiba, we took a bus to Tela.  It was suppose to me a nice little town with nice beaches. But we were mistaken. Because of all the rain the few days before, the town didn't look to pretty. Lot of garbage everywhere, but i am sure that was all there before the rain.

Tela is on the north west coast of Honduras. You start to notice the Garufina/ carribean culture like Belize. The town was so small, with a bunch of hotels, and not much else. It has a botanical/butterfly garden near but we didn't take advantage because of the weather. We met a couple from the Jungle River Lodge in Tela, at a restaurant and chatted with them a bit. They went on a small hike in the gardens and said that it was pretty good.

We managed to get a great deal on our hotel room. 300 Lp which is about $15 for the two of us.

Since there wasn't much to see in Tela, we decided to leave the next morning onward to Omoa, another town more west. However, when we got to the bus station we had just missed our bus and had to wait 2 hours for the next one. Time went by slowly, we watched a lot of Shakira music videos on the small TV in the waiting area.

We took a bus to San Pedro Sula, another huge city, then we caught a mini bus to Puerto Cortez, then another school bus to Omoa. It is an even smaller town, with absolutely nothing. It had a great hostel with lots of imformation about getting to Belize from Honduras. The first option was to leave by a boat from Puerto Cortez, which we had missed because it runs only twice a week. The second option was to continue on to Corinto, the town on the Guatamalan border, then take a bus to Porto Barrios, a small town on the coast, and then  boat to Punta Gordo (one the the southernmost towns in Belize.)  That is what we did.

Half way to Corinto, our bus had mechanical problems. A lot of smoke. Maybe it was due to the very uneven dirt road we were driving on.  We transferred to another bus that took us to the border. it was all very new, and empty. We went through Honduras immigration... all we did was show our passports as we walked by, and i don't think they really cared anyway... Then we had to catch a minibus that drives to the guatemalan immigration about 4 miles further. it was a shack on the side of the road. We continued on the Porto Barrious, paid about 80 Q ($8 US) to leave the country. We found that extremely annoying because we were only passing through Guatemala, and would only be in the country for about 2 hours. We caught a boat that runs everyday to Punta Gordo. We arrived in Belize, went through immigration. It was nice to speak english again, then we caught another bus to a town called Independence, about 2 hours north, then we followed some other tourists headed to Placencia, through Independence to a small taxi ferry that takes you out of the creek to the coast to Placencia.

So after about 15 hours of bus, bus, boat, bus, boat, and thee countries later, we finally arrived in Placencia.
