It's been a week since I've arrived home after my experience in Romania and it seems surreal that I was even there. Even though I've come home to a situation that for me is less than ideal - my living arrangements and my lack of a full time job - I have a much richer life than so many of the adults and children whose paths have crossed mine. I am grateful for the life circumstances I've grown up with - a peaceful country, a loving and wonderful family, and very caring friends. It should be hard to complain after what I have seen.

The babies in the orphanage have left imprints on my heart that I know will never fade. I have cried so many tears since I've returned, relaying my tales of daily life for the tiny, innocent people who exist and experience life through the metal bars of a crib. I've cried for the lack of attention and stimulation. I've cried because some of them don't even have names. I've cried because it is so rare that loving arms hold them. I've cried because I remember them reaching out to me. And I've cried because I love each of them so much.

This experience has taught me so much about myself, and about the world. I've learned that ...

Little things can make a huge difference in someone's life.

I am a lot stronger than I thought I was.

It is an honour to have a baby fall asleep in your arms.

To get a smile, all you have to do is give one.

So where does this leave me? I honestly don't know. I feel that I have learned so much; it's important to me that I never forget. I would like to find ways to keep helping, not necessarily people overseas, but those who need something in my own community.

I am only one but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. And because I cannot do everything does not mean I will refuse to do the something that I can do.
