Saturday, January 26 we slept in again. We worked for a bit, the Internet was finally working now so we took advantage of it for awhile. We went for a huge grocery shop at Wal-Mart. I was also running low on some make-up so I checked out the make-up area. I could not believe my eyes...a cheap lip liner or eyeliner back home cost almost US$10. The expensive ones were almost US$15 to US$20. I realized that makeup is not cheap in Mexico and didn´t see the need for it at that moment.
We decided earlier on that day that we would go out for the night, clubbing. We told ourselves that we would go in every place we were at, when it happened to be a Saturday. So we got all dolled up (as much as we could, with little clothing we took on this trip) and we headed out to a few clubs. We drove to the Golden Zone, to a place called Valentino´s http://www.go2mazatlan.com/fiestaland/valentino.html . It was `all-the-rave´ so we were told by the locals. It was three bars in one and I can´t recall the other two names, but I do recall it was pretty bad. We paid US$8 Cover/Person and they told us it was free alcohol in all three clubs for another 1 ˝ hours. So we were looking forward to some fun and a good time and it turned out to be a joke!! Only one bar served free booze, and it was only beer and Margaritas, the other bar was completely dead - there were maybe one or two other people in there. And the third bar we were not even allowed to go into, they wanted us to pay another cover. So we said `Screw it´ and tried to get our money´s worth of drinks at the free bar and then we left. It was SO young in there we felt old. Not only that, but this seemed to be a locals´ bar, there was not a `gringo´ in sight! The kids looked about 14 years old and many just hung out outside the bar drinking and smoking in their cars. It was quite funny.
We drove by a few other clubs, one being Cherry. It had a huge line-up and we were not in the mood to wait or get ripped off again. We were getting hungry so we drove through Burger King. We enjoyed a hamburger, which we had not had in a few months. It was great!
We then drove a bit further towards old Mazatlan (towards where we were staying) and decided to check out Senior Frogs http://www.senorfrogs.com/mazatlan/index.htm . There was also a huge line up but we decided to give it a try. We went to the guy and asked how much and I think he told us US$10/Person. We didn´t think we would bother but as we were leaving the bouncer in the VIP Line grabbed us and told us to go in. So we got in free and enjoyed the rest of our night. Steve felt a little bit more comfortable because we were not the only `gringos´ in the bar, such as the case at Valentino´s. It was a fun night! We left the bar after 2 am, pretty late since we headed out at about 9 pm that night.
