From 1770 , to Great Keppel Island and over to Airlie Beach. Airlie Beach is yet another typical beach town with one exception. On account of you can't go into the water because of sting rays , there is a giant lagoon in the center of the city. The lagoon is basically a giant swimming pool , rumored to carried sex related diseases , where people just lay around and get a tan. Every once and a while you maybe eat or make an anklet in the bead shop but basically , party and sit in the sun. Somebody's got to do it.
There I met Gil , a good friend from home and we hung out for a day and partied at night. The next day I got a shark tooth necklace at the local market which has been my dream since I arrived here. Then , I left for the Whitsunday Islands.
The trip was two nights on a sailing/motor boat with a stop over at White haven beach which is part of the Whitsunday Islands. The whole day we lied in the sun on the boat and when one side began to get toasted , we simply shifted to the other. If I am a lizard in my next life , I will know what to do. Finally , I know that I won't burn but will get lightly toasted every time I lie in the sun.
White Haven is a beautiful white white white beach. The sand is so fine that it feels like silk on your toes. I could have stayed there for ten... no no... twenty days without even noticing. Alas , An hour later I was on the boat again eating another good meal. I can't think of a better way to spend two days than drinking white wine on the deck of a boat. Wait! ... No , nope , can't think of anything better.
After a little bit of snorkeling we began heading back in a minor storm. Actually , I didn't feel sick at all and rather enjoyed the rough seas. This surprised me after feeling bad at both the Kayaks in Milford Sound and the Stewart Island Farry. Maybe it was just a temporary thing and I'm used to it now. I'm sure that my sea wellness abilities will be further tested in the future but meanwhile It's been under control.
Our captain was very funny and an interesting person so a couple of hours were spent figuring him out. The weird thing was though when we came back to the docks. Apparently , eleven stinger suits (suits to prevent you from getting stung) went missing! The police searched our bags and found nothing but suspect some Irish guy that was on our boat and it's too bad that the trip ended like that. No worries though.
Then back to reality , well ... reality for now anyway.
