The reason for coming to Bharatpur was to visit the World Heritage bird sanctuary here and is the only sanctuary that is open in India at this time of year. It is 29sq km of wetlands and home to 364 species of birds with some migrating here all the way from Siberia. As well as the birds, we also saw deer, antelope, foxes, and lizards, and although we didn't see any, the guide assures us that there is also wild boar, snakes, and jackels.
We checked out of the hotel and caught a bus to Fatepur Sikri, apparently a fortified ghost city - although we didn't see any ghosts the place was absolutely crawling with wannabe guide's, beggars, con-kids, and dodgey rickshaw drivers, which started to get to me after 3 hours of it, and then to top it off after we moved on to Agra we ended up with a rickshaw driver who had his own idea on where we should stay, (so that he can get his commission) but we kept on at him and ended up finally at our chosen hotel after 30. I must say that the poor guy would have been absolutely knacked after peddling around with 2 guys and 40kg of packs and all for R10 - that'll teach him!
