This past weekend, we went to Playa Samara. The bus ride there took about 4 hours so we didn't get there until almost midnight and it was kind of close quarters in the bus but I slept most of the way. When we got there we just kind of hung out for a while then went to bed so we'd be ready for the beach the next day. Saturday I was one of the first ones up and we were sitting outside under a tin roof when all of a sudden we heard some type of pounding on the roof and when I looked up there was a howler monkey peeking over the edge of the roof before leaping into a tree, now if that wasn't crazy enough 4 monkeys followed that one (one even had a baby hanging onto it). What a sight to wake up to. Then the Tica moms cooked us a GREAT breakfast then we headed to the beach around 9. The beach was beautiful, the difference between high and low tides had to be almost 200 feet and we were in a cove that was protected by rocks there were no riptides or undertows so we could swim out to the middle and just float. It was amazing! I hung out at the beach with everyone until lunch then came back for a nap...but I got woken up mid-afternoon because there was a monkey in the tree outside (woken up with the sight of monkeys for the second time that day...ok). Well I expected something like the monkeys in the morning but it was totally different there was a group of about 10 people in the path and in the center of the circle was a grown howler monkey hanging from a branch at eye level. A Tico was feeding him bananas and petting him! It was amazing he jumped around and did tricks for us for about 10 minutes. It was better than seeing monkeys at a zoo, I got plenty of pictures! The rest of the weekend was pretty uneventful and spent at the beach in the ocean and on the sand. We left mid-afternoon on Sunday and I crashed and spent Monday getting some good old R&R on our day off. So now it's back to the grinding board.
