What I did
went on boat cruise
This was truly the highlight of our trip, the 8 hr long boat ride through Kenai Fjords National Park. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, and Seward was a very charming cute town surrounded by mountains. The first thing we spotted was two bald eagles sitting on a light post and it just got better from there..we saw humpback whales, orca killer whales, puffins, sea lions, and sea otters. The most impressive things were the sea lions and killer whales, they were traveling in a large group and the ship went in and got optimal views of the animals. The glacier was also incredible because the boat totally turned off it's engine and we heard part of the glacier calve off and splash into the ocean, sounded more like thunder. I had never seen ANYTHING like all of this! We stopped at an island for dinner.
The worst was the drive back when we discovered the road back to Clam Gulch was shut down due to fatal accidents. We drove all the way back to Seward in search of lodging to no avail, so we bought stuff at Safeway and got in line. I was sleeping most of the time and Joanne drove. It finally opened about 3 AM but we didn't get home that night til around 430 AM. People were partying along the road, with beer and hair band music. It was kind of scary but all in all we were just grateful WE weren't the ones who were in the accident. Those roads had the possibility of being very dangerous.
I was so happy to see Cole and VIesta the next morning!
