It was such a great weekend in Madrid. When mom and I arrived back in Valencia we dropped our bags and went to a really nice tapas bar near the study center. All weekend was the Festival de la Virgen which is a huge deal in Valencia. So as we were eating the city was preparing for a parade. Girls and boys walked the streets all dressed up in traditional clothing. It was cool to see but after a while it got a little boring. Sunday night I was laying in bed and kept hearing loud noises so I went on my balcony and caught the tail end of a fireworks show. Apparently Valencia is known for their fireworks so it was cool to see. There were a few other room that had the same idea of sitting on their balconies to watch!

Monday, after my Spanish class, I met mom at her hotel. We had lunch at a cute cafe on the way to the City of Arts and Sciences which is the really modern building that shows up immediately when you google Valencia. The architecture was amazing and all around every building was white mosaic tile. We couldn't believe that someone actually laid all of that.

After walking there we went to the supermarket to get some more food and then mom walked me back to the study center. We took a few detours so I could show her the highlights of the town like the plazas and the city hall. I went out for a late dinner with some friends and had a reallllly good crepe for desert. They made it right in front of me and added chocolate and whipped cream. It was delish but so rich I couldn't eat it all.

Tuesday is my busy day of class. I went to my first class and then met mom for lunch in the plaza. We ate at this really nice place I've been to before but it was really good, even though the jamon wasn't what mom was expecting (she's obsessed with Spanish ham). We walked around a little bit but I had class again at 3:20 so I had to get back.

My class took us on a field trip to a place about 25 minutes away called Sagunto. Two classes combined to take a bus there and explore the ruins of an old castle. On the way up to the castle we saw houses that were over 600 years old. It blew my mind that people actually still live in those houses! We also passed the old amphitheater which has been renovated a little bit and is still used today. The hike up to the castle was a little tough but when we got up it was totally worth the pain! On one side was the Mediterranean Ocean and on the other a huge mountain range. Every corner we turned was another great photo and I definitely took my share of pictures because it was so beautiful. We climbed to the highest point on the mountain and the view was breathtaking. Even though it included some ugly buildings and factories along the way, we felt like we were all on top of the world.

After the field trip I came back and did a little homework, yes I actually do work while I'm here, and then met mom for dinner. We went to a cute Italian place and enjoyed looking over the cathedral tower as we ate.

This morning I went to my class and then grabbed a quick bite before meeting up with mom. We attempted going to the beach but the weather had other ideas. Though it's a really nice day the wind is really blowing and we literally had a layer of sand over our entire bodies. I'm battling a little cold, I know, my life sucks, so I came back to take a nap and now I am waiting for mom to meet me for dinner. A restaurant around here has everything for one euro on Wednesdays. I have food vouchers for 7 so we will feast tonight for "free" and we love free.

Not sure what the rest of the night will bring but I still have more homework to do and I need to get better before I go to see some friends in France this weekend and Barcelona next week with the program and then Ibiza and Mallorca the next weekend. It'll be busy but very fun!
