Huacachina is a quaint tourist based village wrapping around a lagoon, in the midst of endless rolling sand dunes on the outskirts of Ica. The place is beautiful and I have never before imagined such impressive sand dunes! The hostel I stayed at had a refreshing, if not bug-infested outdoor pool to col off in. A handful of us took a day trip into the sand dunes... a four hour tour cruising up the hills in a dune-buggy, and racing down either on our bellies or on our feet, on sand boards. Our driver armed us with florescnet yellow goggles to protect our eyes from the sand, and raced up and over the dunes so fast, he had us screaming like we were on a rollercoaster! Sandboarding is very similar to snowbaording, but for the life of me I couldn't stand up the whole way down the hills. Nonetheless, a great sport!
At night we went for dinner in restaurants facing the lagoons with live entertainment: locals juggling and spinning fire, drumming and dancing Capoeira.
