It's really sunny here today.I walked from the ferry building up the hill to the hostel, and while doing so decided that I really didn't need some of the stuff in my bag! When I arrived at the hostel I couldn't check in as it was to early so left my bags and went for a walk along the sea front, past all the piers (which are like factories or working units), and down to Pier 39/Fishermans Wharf where a lot of the touristy things are.

I saw Alcatraz Island in the bay while I was eating my lunch (had to try a hot dog and a root beer as haven't done that yet), and saw the hundreds of seals that chill out in the bay area. I did record the sounds that they make so hopefully I can down-load that.
On Pier 39 there are a lot of shops and places to eat, and then you walk a bit further and the ferries leave from there. The sun was baking and I hadn't put any sun cream on so had to keep my fleece jacket on. I still burnt anyway! I had an ice cream to cool me down and only about half hour later when I looked in a mirror in a shop I realized half of it was still round my mouth. How embarrassing.

As in every town so far, there are so many shops with souvenirs and places to eat, I am in constant amazement of the things that you can buy. After walking back to the hostel and putting half my stuff in a bag to send home, I had an afternoon kip to try and catch up on my sleep.

Free dinner tonight was Sheperds Pie. I sat with Stan (from New York), Beth (my roomie, also from New York), and Valentina (Italian girl). I was invited on the pub crawl but really didn't want to go, so Valentina and I went and brought some alcohol from the store. They put it in paper bags like you see in the movies and I was fascinated by this! We sat in the ball room (which is like a massive common room with different music playing all thetime) until about 2am playing a game with dice , and then Uno. Curtis (ADHA from Florida) won but Gemma and Chloe (from Suffolk and Birmingham but studying in Chicago) are convinced that he kept cheating - it was fun anyway. and he brought me a Hershey bar, so I couldn't really complain, though the chocolate does taste a bit like sick! I also met a Sebastian (German) who is probably going to study Music Management at the Univeristy of Buckighamshire, so I told him to keep in touch as I can tell him about the towns he will be studying in. Gemma (or Mrs Burns) kept making me laugh as she has a brummy accent, but has really picked up a lot of the US accent and sayings, sometimes I couldn't figure out where she was from!
