As most of you reading this will know, Guatemala is an interesting country--some areas of extreme poverty, while there are some areas of great wealth and some portions of the "city" that have a middle class....or what we in North America would consider "middle class". Well, last night after writing yesterdays blog posting (sorry, I am on a spanish keyboard, and cant find an apostrophe!!), Betty (who is working with us for the week) kidnapped us from the hostel here in "the City" where we went to the mall, had Taco Bell (very Guatemalan indeed) for dinner and watched the newest "Batman" movie (in English!). It was a long movie!!!! I am afraid to tell you that Sara and I slept through much of it!
This morning we attended a church service at Betty¨s church, (which is a traditional 3 hour service! :) ). But this afternoon we headed out the orphanage to start meeting the kids, the staff and figuring out what we would like to begin to do for the week. When we arrived, one of the most exciting things to see was that Kayla is already getting stronger on her own, and in addition to pulling herself up in the crib, is walking around the crib room when supported by holding onto furniture! While we were there we looked through the various toys and spaces....picking out what will be the best for the kids...and what things we could add. Guess what that meant? After spending time with the kids, we went on a shopping spree!!! Well, in a restrained sort of way, but there will be a very nice area that we can set up for the little ones!
We will work on posting photos tomorrow....but I must warn you that there is a chance that we wont (doggone apostrophe!) blogging or on the internet after tonight...we may be switching from staying at the hotel we were originally planning to stay at, to staying at the orphanage itself...but that is still up in the air. We will just take things one day at a time....but if you dont see a blog on Monday night, its because we have moved to the orphanage....and we will update the blog on Friday or as able...
Thank-you for all of your prayers for us, and for the kids, and those that we are working with this week.
