Day four
I walked up to Esbjergs famous big white statues by the beach, passing a memorial statue on the way remembering sailors killed in the war I think. These were miles from anywhere, and quite a long walk, but really worth it, especially the massive statues which are a great site. I passed by the docks on the way and walked down part of the way through them, but had to turn back because they really smell!! Really fish oil pungent smell! I sat on the beach and looked out at Fano and some windmills (love wind power in Denmark) and saw a passing boat and did a couple of sketchy watercolours.
That evening Alex took me along to a jazz club in the town centre and we listened to a band. There was a really good atmosphere. I timidly asked for two drinks in my very best Danish (which is not very good) and did make myself understood! We went to the Studenthauas afterwards and saw a Samba class going on then got cocktails and felt very exotic and sophisticated.
