It may seem like a weird place to meet one's mother amongst the coffee shops and Red Light District, but Amsterdam was where mum & I began our 3 week trip together!

I arrived a few days earlier to lose my CouchSurfing "virginity" to a lovely Italian who had been living in Amsterdam for the last 4 years. I had a real Dutch experience that night on the way to and from Wednesday night salsa being "dinked" around the city up and over canals on the back of Daniele's bike. After a night of dancing the poor guy then had to dink me home uphill, with a flat tyre in the rain. And look at him - he was still smiling!

In other memorable moments from Amsterdam pre-mother arrival, I celebrated my 26th birthday on the 30th July. Luckily not alone.

When mum arrived on the 1st August, I expected that we'd be taking it easy after she'd just endured a long haul of 20+ hours all the way from Busselton, but it was the exact opposite! Turned out that she'd "popped a pill" on board and was raring to go! Maybe Amsterdam was a perfect choice for her afterall!

So we did the 3 things one must do in Amsterdam; got on a bike, got on a boat and got out of the city.

During our short 3 day stay, we were also lucky to be able to meet up with two of my netball friends from home; Amy Prosser from my UWA netball team in Perth, and Abby Carr who I used to play against back in good ol' Busso netty days (and who is also a good family friend). Thanks to both gals for the lovely time you showed us in Amsterdam and Den Haag.

With the rain setting in the morning we were leaving, it was perfect timing to head onto our next destination - Dublin, where we would be meeting my younger brother, Sean, for the first time in 11 months! You can only imagine a mother's excitement!
