We were up early this morning for our 7 am pick up from the hotel in Ollantaytambo to take us to the starting point of the Inca Trail trek. Half of our group was doing the Inca Trail in combination with another GAP group, while the other half of our group was doing the alternative Lares trek.
Today was not too bad a hike, mostly just a nice walk through beautiful scenary. I was definitly one of the slowest people in our group though! But I got lots of nice pictures while I was walking.
We reached our campsite around 1 pm. It was already all set up by the porters, who had arrived way ahead of us, even though they were carrying all of our stuff, plus the sleeping tents, dining tents, cooking equipment and food! We had a great lunch and then managed to find a "pub" (really a bedroom, with 3 beds and a tv) where we could watch the Spain - Portugal world cup game. Not exactly wilderness camping!
We had "happy hour" (hot chocolate or tea, popcorn and crackers) at 4:30 pm and then dinner at 6:30 pm - so much food! After dinner everyone pretty much just went to bed, to get lots of sleep before our 5:45 am wake up call.
