Bonito really is bonito, but very caro as well. And to make things worse, I arrived here just 3 days after high season started so prices almost doubled. I'm not about to spend two days budgets for an hour of snorkling so I chose some of the cheaper attractions and just laid low for most of the time. The Blue Lake cave was beautiful but very touristy, and we were made to wear helmets during the tour which was pretty annoying. Although I didn't get to do as much as I would have liked, the trip to Bonito was worth it, if only for the two completely random encounters that I had here.
I had been emailing back and forth with Carles, from Spain whom I'd met in Porto Alegre, about meeting up in Rio for New Years. I checked my email and found out that he was in Bonito as well. I called him up and learned that he happened to be sitting for a drink about 30 meters from the internet cafe I was in! We made plans to check the Balneario municipal (municipal swimming whole) the next day. So the next morning when I went to meet him at his hostel, I recognized the girl using the computer there as Vicki, whose travel blog I randomly stumbled upon on travelpod a few months ago and have been following once in a while (Hi Vicki!). What a coincidence! At night we all had dinner at my host Willian's place and we spent a few hours the next day pigging out on ice cream and sharing travel tips and stories. We're doing pretty similar trips and might meet up again along the way. See below for her blog link.
Anyway, after more than 20 hours on two buses I'm back in Sao Paulo for one night. Had a huge Christmas feast today with Luiza and her huge family. Tomorrow: Back to Rio!

Hey... still strange to think we bumped into one another like that! Cheers for the icecream experiences. I'm just about to catch up with my entry from Bonito to. Happy New Year from BA!
