I finally got used to kissing girls twice on the cheek as a greeting, but here in Sao Paulo they only kiss once. Don't ask me why the traditions are different, but I like Rio twice as much!

Ivan, a CSer I met in Rio a few days ago, bought me a ticket to see a game at Maracana on Saturday. The plan was to see the game and then take a night bus together to Sao Paulo, whence he flies back home to Mexico. It was a great match! Vasco da Gama beat Bahia 2-1. Coincidentally, I saw Vasco play at Maracana the last time I was here as well.

I met a bunch of good people here in Rio and saying goodbye was tough. Ana Luiza drove Ivan and me to the bus station and this is when I finally grasped the feeling that this is not just a regular vacation. I'm in it for the long haul. (By the way, if this was a normal two week vacation I would be coming home in 2 days, with so much left unseen!). I barely slept on the 6 hour bus ride which brought us into Sao Paulo at about 5:30 AM. Ivan rushed to the airport and I took the metro to my hosts house. She greeted me with open arms and I took a nap as soon as I put my stuff down.

Sao Paulo is a huge city and is the cultural capital of Brazil. Full of museums and lacking beaches, it's a sharp contrast from Rio. I met up with Bastien, a good friend who used to live in New York, and is now teaching English and French here, and we walked around for a while. Although my host Luiza is very busy finishing up her thesis on the middle east conflict, she found the time to take me out for "the best pizza in Sao Paulo". Brazilians love pizza, and unlike in the states, its considered a delicacy here. And they eat it with a fork and knife!

I'll spend the next 2 days here before moving on to Curitiba.
