We were a bit disappointed last night when we believed we were entering Santa Fe. There was nothing around but pure desert. Until we stumbled upon the center of the town. There was a one block radius where everyone seemed to be gathering. There was live music, great food, and lots to do.
In the beginning we went into the local stores and browsed some jewelery. When we walked into our very first store one of the sales women shouted "Oh My God! you look so adorable!!". She was speaking to Amie, and continued to tell Amie how adorable she looked, how much she loved her outfit, and how she is not a lesbian, but the lady in the back of the store is. We all thought our Mom's were a little crazy, but we were obviously wrong. The same saleswoman brought out some gorgeous turquoise bracelets for Kelsey to try on. She went on to Kelsey how absolutely beautiful the bracelet was with Kelsey's red hair and blue eyes (maybe she is a lesbian?.) The woman said "oh just have fun and play dress up". She continued to tell us the bracelets were 40% off. Kelsey was intrigued so she asked how much the bracelet was . The woman checked the bracelet, and with a smile on her face proceeded to tell us the bracelet was $750 !! Kelsey nicely gave the bracelet back, and thanked the woman for her help. We continued to look around the town, and window shop. The city was so rich in art from the buildings and churches to the window displays. It was beautiful.
After some shopping, we asked some locals where a good place to eat. They suggested a few, which we could not find. We then happened upon a great looking Mexican place called Coyote Cafe. The pricing was a bit steep, but we decided to treat ourselves, and plus we heard Santa Fe doesn't get much cheaper. We went upstairs to the restaurant, and discovered it was on the roof!! We sat down and were able to order right away. Our chips and salsa came out first, and within about a minute or two the plate was cleared. Sarah, Amie, and Kelsey ordered the Grand Chimi for dinner, and Kier ate the Chalupas. It was absolutely mouthwatering and delicous! We were ecstatic to find some good Mexican food in New Mexico.
After dinner we all could have just put our heads on the table and fallen asleep. We were exhausted, so we went back to the campsite. By nine o'clock we were in laying in bed falling asleep. As we laid down to sleep we began to talk about how cool it would be to see or hear a coyote. Once there was silence Sarah told us to listen. We all began to hear all of the coyotes howling. Sarah describes the noise as enchanting, Kelsey says it was a bit spooky, Amie says it was exciting, and Kiersten says it was different to hear coyotes rather then crickets. Also this morning we were greeted by a rooster crowing as the sun was rising.
After another good nights sleep we hit the road again. We are currently on the road heading south to Phoenix. Today our drive seems to be straight through the desert. We have been in the car for about 2 hours now. It is 7:30am, and a little bit ago we were able to look behind us and see the sun rising through the canyons. The canyons are breathtaking, and the drive is gorgeous. We will be in Phoenix for two nights so we can get some good sleep in, and some good exploring.

Hi Girls!
Thanks for sharing your adventure...funny! Enjoy! Years back (I won't tell you how many!) I went along with my rowing team from universtiy and camped from Sacramento, CA to New Mexico, stopping by the Grand Canyon along the way...awesome! In the desert of Nevada we saw road runners, nothing like the cartoon! I wish you all the best. Count on my prayers.

Hi Girls
sounds like you all are having a great time. Enjoy and be safe - tell Amie I took very good care of Abby, we really have gotten attached to her, and have decided to leave Maggie at 53 Manor Square instead. I don't think Mrs. Leonard will know the differnce!!
