We woke in New York at 3:00AM!!! Stupid, but true!....We were at JFK airp˛rt in just 35 mins, after a taxi ride that normally takes around 80 mins from Jersey City...this was mainly because New York was deserted at that time on a Monday morning because no one else is stupid enough to be up at that time. The flight was all a little bit of a blur, and as we were pretty tired, rather than risking the dodgy bus terminal in San Jose, we decided to walk around the corner from the international airport to the domestic airport and book ourselves on a flight to Quepos on the west coast of Costa Rica. The bus takes 3 hours and the plane took 20 mins...done deal! We expected a small plane, but this thing was small!!...very small! maybe 10 seats, and no one else was booked on so we had a private ride over the hills and down onto the smallest runway in the middle of huge palm groves.

We chilled in Quepos at a cool little hostel (with a pool!) and the next day got the bus down to Dominical down the coast (on Dre┤s advice, thanks man!) Dominical is one of the main surfing beaches in Costa Rica, and apart from the beach there was very little else there - such a chilled spot! We were lookin forward to hanging out on the beach for a few days and watching some surfers and all that, but ooooooooooooooohhhh no, not if the Costa Rican monsoon has anything to do with it!!! Solid torential rain for the full two days! It rained so hard the beach almost flooded and me and Lou were both convinced our very basic hostel room wouldnt hold up to it all. But we manged to met a few cool people in the shelter of bars and bus stops and spent the rest of the time reading and Tim beating Lou at card games. We headed back to Manuel Antonio National Park which is the smallest national park in the country, but so so beautiful and the best bit about it was that the rain went! We took a tour guide into the park with a telescope and we spotted all sorts of wildlife in the rainforests.... monkeys, crabs, frogs, iguana, sloths, racoons....the guide then left us on one of the many amazing beaches in the park. Palm fringed, white sanded and surf up it was....it felt like paradise, and not only because the rain had finally gone. After some memorable views and amazing beaches we headed back to Quepos for the last day. Wow, it then wet hot! Very hot!! We spent the day waiting for our bus in the afternoon to take us back to near San Jose for our flight to Quito. Something was being celebrated in the town, as we saw a samba parade go through the town, followed by a parade of local folk on horseback....all in all Costa Rica was awesome!! Such amazing wildlife - SO so many birds, real genuine and friendly people!! We stayed in a small family run hotel near the airport the night before our flight to South America!!
