Finally made it to the pyramids. It was great but fairly expensive by Egypt standards. We went inside the giant Pyramid. I did not appreciate what heat was until I was in that 6000 year old structure that's filled with dead air. The climb to the main chamber is fairly strenuous, but that may have something to do with the fact that we were going up the tomb robber's entrance. I was fairly disappointed when we reached the main burial chamber. There was nothing in there but stone and the carved stone that once held the sarcophagus.
I was much more impressed by the tombs of court officials and people of that sort. I have a very dark picture of what the inside of what one of those tombs looks like. I didn't feel like paying baksheesh, so I had to sneak the picture when the guard wasn't looking.
The Sphinx is much smaller than I ever expected, and the Pyramids were much bigger. But to say that the Sphinx is small is really a comparative thing.
Across the street from the Sphinx is the crazy tourist area that specializes in all sorts of crap marketing items that somehow relate to mummies and the Pizza Hut/KFC combo. Gotta love that capitalism.
Going to head out now, I need to exchange money so I can buy my ticket to Israel tomorrow. Hopefully I won't be blown up in the process.
