Elephant and Wheelbarrow

I left Surfers and headed to Prince Consort Backpackers as this was recommend to me, I got of the Grey Hound and caught the train to Fortitude Valley. It was raining that evening when I arrived in Brisbane, Once I had settled into the hostel I headed to the Elephant & Wheelbarrow pub which was directly below the hostel.

The first full day I adventured out through China Town as that was directly opposite the hostel, It was grim and I came across a lot of homeless and aboriginals on the streets.

By foot I made my way into the town centre following a map, The rain had gone and the Sun was out, Making my way through The Botanical Gardens I took in many different colours of plants, Watched many cyclist, Runners and families out walking together. It was so peacefull and so unreal that I had made it to Australia

I had adventured over to South Bank, Where there was many children & Families enjoying the sun playing in the Lagoon. This was like paradise to my eyes as Edinburgh, Scotland would never have the climate to be able to do this. It was like every day to Brisbane people it was a holiday life they had.

Many people I had meet travelling from Sydney to Brisbane advised me to skip, They said it was boring and that there was nothing to do. One thing I told myself was ( What one person doesn't like, Doesn't mean someone else wouldn't) On this occasion don't always listen to other people, Make your own mind up, As its your adventure and you can make it as interesting as you want.

I did find it hard meeting new people on this incense visiting Brisbane, Due to the dorm I was staying in all spoke German and wouldn't make the effort to speak in English.

I did go to a few bars by myself and approached people to have a chat, I pushed myself out my comfort zone.

I started to speak to this one Australian guy Carl, Who I became friends with.

He took me out one night and showed me what the night life was like, He also invited me to his place for dinner where we sat outside on the roof top and looked over Brisbane City, At this point New Year was approaching and he also invited me to his house party.

I brought in New Year 2011 with him and his friends, We watched the fire works from the story bridge and partied.

I was leaving a few days after New Year to head to Mooloolaba to stay there a couple of night to visit Australia Zoo then up to Rainbow Beach for Fraser Island.
