Where I stayed
June 11th - Durango
After getting rained out of our campsite in the woods we made our way into the old frontier town of Durango. When we walked out of the candy shoppe we found a real, live (albeit cheesy) cowboy shootout taking place in the street. Later that night we headed to the Henry Strater Theater for a fifty year old melodrama and vaudeville show.
Saturday morning we stumbled upon the annual street barbeque - an all-you-can-eat smoking and grilling extravaganza. With different groups competing for the top barbeque prize, we were treated to some of the best barbeque this side of the Rockies. The meat smokers came in many forms, including bear and armadillo. To my great disappointment, I was informed that they didn't represent what was inside (I had really been looking forward to that smoked armadillo). I ate until I thought my stomach would surely burst, then went back for some more. When the meat started running out we waddled back to the truck and pointed her South to Santa Fe.

Wow, I have really missed this town in my life. And we thought Santa Maria was backwards!
Yeah but this place is backwards in a good way!
