So the final day arrived.... time for the fun and frolics in South America to come to an end and to go our separate ways. It has been a very relaxed last 2 days in Lima with basic sight seeing, Jacuzzis, good food and wine (been missing the vino tinto since Argentina!). Have posted a few snaps from Lima for your perusal, including the last supper in Miraflores on Sunday - not as per Peruvian history where they have guinea pig pictured, instead Amber tried īcevicheī and finally got her prawns, John stuck with what he knows best... red meat!

In its classic form, ceviche is chunks of raw fish, lime juice, chillies and chopped onion. The mixture is marinated and served at room temperature with cancha (toasted kernels of maize), chunks of corn-on-the-cob, slices of cooked sweet potato. The marinade used in ceviche is typically citrus based, with lemons and limes being the most commonly used. In addition to adding flavor to the ceviche, the acid in the citrus marinade pickles or cooks the fish, so by the time it is served, the fish is no longer technically raw. Absolutely delicious!

So itīs been a fantastic two months or amazing scenery, new experiences and random events. We both survived in one piece and laughed at every step along the way (except perhaps during that very tense taxi ride from Potosi to Sucre in Bolivia at night). There are too many things to remember and one single event could not be placed ahead of the others, but the best bits have been - canopies and wineries in Mendoza (ARG), Boca Juniors game in Buenos Aires (ARG), Iguazu Falls (BRA & ARG), Cafayjate (ARG), Salt Plains (BOL), cabin overlooking lake Titicaca for Johnīs birthday in Copacabana (BOL), Islands tour - Uros, Amanatani, Taquile (PER), the mighty Inca trail (PER), Colca Canyon (PER), Nasca lines (PER) but we could list even more...
and of course the fantastic food and drink along the way...
steaks/fabulous wine in Argentina, strange beers and llama in Bolivia, guinea pig/alpaca/ceviche in Peru and we cannot forget the highly intoxicating pisco sours!

Big thanks to all those superb travel companions who we have met along the way, itīs been great to get to know new people and hope we can stay in touch...
(Tour of 78 reunion maybe??? Well at least maybe for 3 of us when Amy arrives in the UK later this year.)

So we bid you farewell...

Amber returns to Manchester with a new job at Barclays and a desperate need for some healthy living and a birthday to celebrate, John heads to North America and begins his one man journey overland from San Diego to Calgary in search of Scalley.

We sincerely hope you have enjoyed our trials and tribulations during the search for Nobby. Although we never managed to meet him in person, it was an honour to try (plus he has a few challenges of his own following the recent car crash in Lima) and the Peruvians do officially love to TOON! Look forward to entertaining / boring you with our hundreds of photos.

Itīs been emotional!!!

Amber & John.
xx
