We are booked on to the Inca Trail beginning 15 May 2006, so we will be arriving in Cucso on 13 May. The Inca Trail is a walking route that leads through the mountains above the Urumbamba river, following the course of an old Inca roadway leading to the city of Machu Picchu. The appeal of this particular trek is the stunning combination of Inca ruins, magnificent mountains, exotic vegetation and extraordinary ecological variety. The trail goes over high passes with unforgettable views, through cloud forest, and finally into subtropical vegetation. The maximum height above sea level along the way is 4200 m... It is not for the faint hearted so I have been told but we have each bought a third of a porter each to carry some kit so we can enjoy the scenery and pack more food!
Day 01: Cusco to Wayllabamba (12km)
Day 02: Wayllabamba to Pacamayo (12km)
Day 03: Pacamayo to Wiñay Wayna (15km)
Day 04: Wiñay Wayna to Machu Picchu (5km), Return to Cusco: Train

Glad to hear that you are having a fabulous time. It sounds like its a mix of all your favourite things..football, wine, food, pretty things to look at and good chat. Hope you are coping with the limited clothing options- been looking at the photos and you seem to seem managing so far.
