Mauritius was a nice little island get away...Especially after midterms and being on the ship for 6 days straight. Going to Mauritius was interesting because I hadn't perviously heard of the island and before I left I was watching the travel channel and they were talking about how nice the beaches were there. A few days later I look at my itinerary and realized I was going there! The port of the island was very nice and in order to get from the ship to the gate of the port we had to take a 3 minute ride on a water taxi. There were plenty of places to shop and eat and it was located in a very busy part of the city so catching a cab wasn't too hard. We only stayed for two days so I had to pack in the activities. The first day I went out with 4 of my friends who are an absolute a riot! We took the whole day and literally went up one coast of the island. We went to 3 different water falls, a colored sand dune park, 2 different beaches, and stopped at every look out point and photo op area. Maritius was quite green and tropical with a touch of African style vegetation. The second day I went on a catamaran cruise! We set out at about 9 am and basically cruised around the coast until 5pm that evening. The crew on the catamaran made a great barbeque lunch for us and later took us snorkeling. The water was extremely warm and very clear. We saw dolphins, vibrant fish and some students even saw sea urchins and got to experience first hand what urchin spins feel like!! Good times in Mauritius.
