Accommodation

Budget

Tinto Hostel, Calle 6 No. 2-61, Bloque E Casa 1, Tel: (097) 726-7725. This new Hostel is housed in quiet residential quarters, and is kept in great shape by its owner Javier. He offers a couple of small dorms for 15,000 pesos per person – the upstairs dorm is better as it has a balcony; a couple of small private rooms with communal bathroom for 20,000 and 30,000 pesos for 1 or 2 persons; and a couple of more spacious rooms with private bathrooms for 35,000 and 50,000 pesos for 1 or 2 persons. There are lounging areas as well as kitchen facilities, cable TV and Wi-Fi. If you're seeking a dorm rate then it’s worth coming here for the night as its better than the dorms in San Gil; if you’re seeking a private en-suite room then you’ll find better value for money in San Gil.  www.baricharadigital.gov.co .

Hospedaje Mi Ranchito, Calle 6 No. 3-54, Tel: (097) 726-7296. This quiet family run place offers clean simple rooms with comfy beds, TV and communal bathrooms. The two furthest rooms have private bathrooms, so ask to see these first, as it’s the same rate – 15,000 pesos per person.

Midrange

La Posada de Pablo, Calle 3 No. 7-30, Tel: (097) 726-7070. This offered simple yet affective bright, spacious high ceiling rooms with private bathrooms and cable TV. Their rates were 40,000 and 70,000 pesos for 1 or 2 persons. It’s also run by a hospitable family.

Hotel Corata, Carrera 7 No. 4-08, Tel: (097) 726-7110. This none smoking hotel is rich with character, with antiques dotted all over the place, and was probably my favourite in this price bracket. The high ceiling rooms with exposed wooden beams have private bathrooms, TV and Wi-Fi. Their rates including breakfast were 60,000 and 90,000 pesos for 1 or 2 persons.

Greengoes Guesthouse, Call 6 No. 5-24, Mobile: 316-237-6343, Web: www.greengoestravel.com . This characterful guest house is set in a typical white-washed colonial home with courtyard and hammocks. They only offer a couple of rooms, both of which are full of character with local arts and crafts and lovely bathrooms. Their current rates including breakfast are 60,000 and 70,000 pesos for 1 or 2 persons; good double rate, but overpriced for a single occupancy.

Hotel Mesopotamia, Web: www.hotelmesopotamia.com . One of the more expensive places to stay in town, this has pretty steep rates of 132,000 and 180,000 pesos for 1 or 2 persons. It’s full of character.

Don’t even consider staying at the places mentioned below as they are well over priced for the standard of rooms on offer. Hostal Aposentos, Calle 6 No. 6-40, is located on the Plaza and is well overpriced at 60,000 and 70,000 pesos for 1 or 2 persons – not the 30,000 peso single rate that the LP states. Hospedaje Las Colonias de Mi Puebla, Carrera 5 No. 6-76, rates of 60,000 80,000 and 100,000 pesos for 1, 2 or 3 persons; This is no better than most of the hotels in San Gil, and those cost a third of the price.
