Accommodation

Whilst here I stayed at Hotel Reforma 2000, 4 Poniente No. 916, on the corner of 11 Norte, Tel. 01 (222) 242 3363, Web: www.hotelreforma2000.com . Their current rates were 200, 250 peso for 1 or 2 persons and 350 + 400 peso for 2, 3 or 4 persons in a room with 2 double beds. This good value budget hotel is set over 3 floors around a pleasant colonial style courtyard. The carpeted rooms with en-suite and cable TV are a little cramped, but are still good value for money.

Another good budget to midrange option is Hotel Centro Historico, 4 Poniente No. 506, Tel: 01 (222) 246 8942. The refurbished modern rooms are kept in pristine condition but are a tad on the small side. Their rates were 250 peso for 1 or 2 persons.

Hotel Provincia Express, Avenida Reforma No.141, Tel: 01 (222) 246 3537. This pleasant midrange hotel is as the Lonely Planet describes, but it's a shame there prices are 100 peso out. The current rates are 350 + 450 peso for 1 or 2 persons and not the 260 + 350 that Lonely Planet states. A room with 2 beds you're looking at 570 peso for 2 persons. At the end of the day, the rooms are simple and well overpriced especially when you see what else is around.

At the top end Puebla offers some fine boutique accommodation.

My favourite was Puebla de Antano Hotel, 3 Oriente No. 206, Tel: 01 (222) 246-2403, 01 (800) 0128219. This small hotel is housed in a fine period building and is hard to imagine that up until recently was lived in by a family of five. The hotel has only been open for 3 weeks and benefits from a superb location just off the Zocalo. The few spacious rooms that they offer are each different in shape and size and come with lovely period features and antique furnishings. They have the choice of smoking or non smoking rooms and the manager speaks fluent English. Their current rates were 2100 peso for a suite and 1750 peso for a standard room.

Hotel Posada San Pedro, 2 Oriente No. 202, Tel: 01 (222) 891 5700, Web: www.hotelposadasanpedro.com.mx . This fine hotel offered numerous rates and packages, so best to take a look at their website for current rates.
