Accommodation
Whilst here I stayed at the centrally located Hotel Posada Diamante, Iganacio Allende Sur 45, Centro Historico, Tel: 01(442)212-6637, www.posadadiamante.com.mx . This was a fine budget to mid-range Hotel with all en-suite rooms having cable TV and excellent jet showers. Their current rates were 220, 315, 365, + 490 Peso for one, two, three or four persons.
Hotel Meson de la Merced 16 de Septiembre No.95 Ote, Tel: 01(442)214-1498, www.hotellamerced.com . This fine hotel is housed in a charming colonial building and had knowledgeable staff running the place.
Hotel Plaza Juarez No.23 Nto, Tel: 01 (442) 212-1138, www.travelbymexico.com/quer/hotelplaza . This overlooks the zocalo but the interior of the hotel did need sprucing up a little. Their current rates were 300 + 350 peso for one or two persons.
Jirafa Roja Hostel 20 de Noviembre No.72, Tel: 01 (442) 212-4825, www.jirafarojahostel.com . This excellent youth hostel benefitted from a good location. Their dorm rates were 110 peso and the private rooms were 250 + 300 peso for one or two persons, with the nicer room's being upstairs. This had everything that you would expect from a decent hostel - guest kitchen, laundry service, rooftop terrace, lounge area with VCR, library and internet.

This charming boutique hotel features fine colonial architecture throughout and is set in a beautiful natural environment. The rooms and suites offer fine period features, and the hotel offers all the amenities that you could wish for to make an enjoyable stay. They also have a sister hotel in San Miguel de Allende.
