We had so much fun spending time in Monterey with Lisa and Patrick. During the week Patrick was gone a lot during the day because he just started grad school at the Naval Postgraduate School, but Lisa did a great job entertaining us. She took us to the Monterey Bay Aquarium where we got to see whales, sea horses, sardines, jelly fish, sting rays, and many other kinds of sea creatures. Sadly enough, the sea otter exhibit was under construction so we couldn't see them. Apparently the otters got bored with their set up and tore it apart. We all agreed that we would do the same thing if we were cooped up in a little exhibit all day long.

Lisa and Patrick live right on the beach so we had to take advantage of the nice weather our second day there. We took a nice walk down the beach to Fisherman's Warf where we got to see a lazy pile of seals lounging around. We stayed downtown that night and had a great time listening to a live band at The Mucky Duck. The next day we drove out Carmel and spent the day doing wine tastings. We are now experts, in case anyone wants a couple wine tasting buddies. Lisa was very quickly becoming like a close friend. We instantly felt comfortable around her, and always had a great time! Wish we lived closer!

While driving around with Lisa, it came up that Patrick is a big mountain biker. We instantly asked if he would want to bike into San Francisco with us that weekend. Lisa was sure that he would want to and we started making plans. After some discussion we decided that while we really wanted to bike into San Francisco we also wanted to see Sonoma. Lisa came up with the perfect solution. We would pack all of our bikes and gear into her and Patrick's truck and drive up to Sonoma Thursday afternoon. We would spent that day exploring, and then start biking down to San Francisco the next morning. Lisa would drive with all of our gear in her truck and stop about every 10 miles and wait for us. Since Patrick hadn't done any long distance biking before, we decided to split the 60 mile ride into two days and camp halfway through. We pitched the idea to Patrick that night when he got home from school and he loved it! We started planning a bit more and were so excited to have two really awesome biking partners for the last couple days. We were also looking forward to not having to carry all of our gear for the last couple stretches.
