This morning we left out of Santa Maria and headed towards San Luis Obispo. We got on the road at around 8 am and shivered our way down the road. It was a very cool morning and there were thunderstorm warnings for later that evening, so we were in a bit of a hurry. We hadn't been riding for much more than an hour when the rain started. It was coming down pretty hard and there was no shoulder for us to ride on. Tension was high as we held our breath every time a large dump truck would pass close by. We peddled through it and came into a little town right as the weather was clearing up. We ate an early lunch, contacted our couchsurfing hosts to let them know we were getting close, and kept on biking.

We saw at least 6 different groups of cycling tourers in the last stretch to SLO (San Luis Obispo). One pair of guys stopped to talk to us, Jimmy from Michigan and Brian from Ireland. They had met up somewhere in Oregon and had been biking south together since then. We really enjoyed talking to them and hearing of their cycling experience. Brian even revealed his dream of transcending into a biking machine. He walked us through all of the steps, which include: becoming emotionless, no longer needing food or water, and peeing and pooping on your bike. Jimmy vouched that Brian was well on his way. Best of luck Brian! They were such funny guys! We all wished one another luck on the remainder of our biking journeys and continued on.

When we got into SLO we were greeted by Alex and Mark, two of the three guys we would be staying with. They invited us in, showed us where to put our things, and let us get cleaned up. Afterwards one of their friends, Cory, came over and we all played games. One was a guessing game in which we wrote famous peoples' names (real or fictional characters) on a sticky note. We would then, without revealing the card, stick the post it to the forehead to our right. We were allowed ask yes or no questions to find out who we were. The game started out with a bang because Amanda guessed her character in the first round! She was The Hulk!

After finishing the game the group headed downtown to partake in tot night at a local bar. There was a special on all tater tots and also a tot tossing competition! The group of us had so much fun! Later in the evening we got to meet our third host, Mike, who had just gotten off work. It was definitely a night for the books, filled with tot tossing, old people dancing, and a whole lot of laughter.
