After a good night's rest we woke up and were ready to explore Newport Beach. We made plans to go off-roading up to Orange County's highest point and hung around the house while Jared painted his room. His dad came over to help and invited us all out to a birthday brunch for Jared at Harpoon Henry's in the morning. We gladly accepted and made plans to meet up at 10:30 am.

After Jared finished his room, we dog-piled into his Highlander with Nathan and Zach and took off. We stopped by a gas station to get some snacks and continued on to the base of the mountain. Just before we started the ascent, Jared jokingly said, "Hope nobody here gets carsick!" We both looked at each other and said, "Uh oh..." Amanda gets carsick driving 25 mph on a straight, even road (not really, but almost). The boys all paused for a second, and then, not so convincingly, assured us that Amanda would be just fine. We started up the mountain and realized that was not the case. The ride was bumpy, curvy and crazy! But so much fun! We listened to music and laughed the whole way up. Jared showed us his amazing driving skills by passing several 4-wheel drive vehicles, such as Hummers, pickup trucks and jeeps. Way to go, Jared!

When we got to the top, we stood at the highest point in all of Orange County and took in the view with great company. We hung around for a bit to explore the mountain top, then headed back down. It was a good night, and a cool way to see the OC.
