We planned to leave Memphis bright and early, but, as always, we didn't get on the road until close to 10. After a harrowing trip across the Mississippi River on the Old Bridge we made it into Arkansas! The afternoon heated up fast, so we took a break and layed in the shade of a tree. Around 4:30 we decided to finish the trip to Forrest City. We discovered that biking at night does not provide much relief from the heat, and the bugs are terrible! We uped our protein for the day by swallowing many bugs. We found a church yard in Forrest City that gave us protection from the street, but, as we found out in the morning, not from chiggers. F.Y.I, chiggers are tiny little bugs that bite you and make you want to scratch your skin off.
