Where I stayed
Hotel Grand View
I had a bit of a lie in this morning and didn't leave till 8am! I decided I'd go a different way back to the twon, taking in the view at the infamous Poon Hill which was a little diversion.
Along my way I met two Germans, Alexandra and Phillip. They were PhD students and had been in the area for a conference of some kind. I hiked with them to Tadapani which we reached at 12 and i decided I'd have a short day and rest a little. After being quoted 160r at one guesthouse which was a 'special price' we went elsewhere and were offered a room for 50 which was great. Basically the deal with the tea houses is they don't care what you pay for the room as they know you have to eat and drink at their restauant which is extremely expensive by Nepal standards (if you don't eat there they charge you an extra 10 dollars!). I'm quite happy to sit and chill and eat all evening!
I shared a pizza with Phillip and we laughed as we watched the hotel owner chase a little white pony for eating his flowers! We were then a little shocked to have a large group of backpackers arrive demanding to get a cheap room as they promised to buy lots of food - the owner agreed and all they bought between them was a jacket potato and ate all of their own food with it which was really cheeky. They were quite boisterous and loud the whole night!
We were lucky enough that the owner decided to put on some heating that night whcih we didn't ahve to pay for. I think it was for the benefit of the porters but the heating consists of a bucket of hot coal placed under the table - the table being covered by a thick blanket that touches the floor so you can sit with your legs under the blanket and table and toast your feet!
