The rain didn't stop and we got to St Helens and drove out to the Bay of Fires. The sand was gorgeous and I'm sure the sea would have looked much nicer on a calm warm day but it was still nice to get out of the city. The waves were huge and we had fun standing on the rocks trying to dodge them
We drove up the coast to an area just outside the town that has some rock pool as we'd been told it was good for swimming, but again it was freezing and there were hundreds of jellyfish all over the beach and in the water so we decided to give that a miss. We had some lunch and opposite the cafe was a carpark. We watched as two surfers quickly got out of their wetsuits, jumped into their car and drove off....with the girl's wetsuit left on the roof. Sure enough it fell off after about 10m but as they hadn't realised, it was left on the road. Within minutes a van drove by, stopped and picked it up and drove off. I just hope he was taking it to the tourist office or the police station as I'm told wetsuits are expensive. And they said you can leave your door unlocked in Tasmania?
We drove back to Launceston and will stay at the same hostel tonight then head for Cradle Mountain tomorrow which should be really nice.
