Mission beach is quite a nice little place, although there's not much here if you don't have transport.  Monday night I went for a run through a cool rainforest type trail and got very close to a big bat which was cool.  That night myself and my German dormie tried to find some nightlife, failed miserably and ended up in bed by 8.30.  If I remember the name of the hostel I wouldn't recomend it (Mission Beach Retreat possibly?) since it wasn't very sociable, the TV room is outside and it got pretty cold at night, plus we ended up with a huge family in our dorm who didn't appreciate us hanging our towels on the end of their bunkbeds and were very noisy in the morning which annoyed us somewhat!

Today I decided to hire a mountain bike for the day since it was so cheap.  I did a cool route along the beach then through some beautiful trails and did a bit of hiking too.  It was so great to be back on a decent bike again and I had a great day.  I was in search of the big Cassowary bird but unfortunately all I found was its poo.

Tonight I got a late bus to Cairns and low and behold it was late - I sat in the hostel for at least an hour before the courtesy bus came, then waited another half hour at least at the bus station before I was finally on my way to Cairns where I will try and get a job for a while.  On the way there I called around lots of hostels to try and get a room but all were full - it's Tuesday night for goodness sake!  Ended up booking into an all girls hostel but when I arrived in Cairmns I was so tired and found a closer place called the Bellview which had a room for me.  When I called to cancel my other booking at 9.30, the woman on the phone sounded a bit annoyed as she said she'd been waiting uop for me.......9.30 is hardly late so I'm glad I chose to avoid that place - I bet it was a laugh a minute, not.

Met up with the Scottish guys in town in PJ O'Brians, some crappy Irish bar, although I did also run into Harry, Mark and Richard there who I'd met in Noosa and have seen a few times on my way here.  We ended up in a dodgy bar called Rhinobar although they had half price drinks so before we knew it, we were too drunk to notice how bad it was, then I was dragged onto the stage to compete in some dodgy game to win prizes, plus the guys enjoyed the staff dancing on the bar in skimpy outfits and the wet t-shirt competition (no that wasn't what I competed in, give me some credit!).  Needless to say it was a late night.......
