After the rigours of shopping in the 100 degree heat on Wednesday, we decided on a trip to the Skyline Drive in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.  At an elevation of 3400 feet it was a much cooler 77 degrees (that's a balmy 25 for those of you working in Centigrade). Sinnet, Darrell and Amanda went on a hike to Lewis Falls, which turned out to be a trickle of water since it's so late in the summer. Darrell was our little packhorse (as usual), carrying supplies and lots of water, and got a very sweaty back.

Sinnet and Amanda led the way, singing and whistling, as the park info brochure advised, to scare off any bears. It must have worked, because we didn't see any bears, but we did see lots of other flora and fauna, as well as lovely views of the mountains.

Back at home that evening, we had a classic American meal - chilli dogs, potato salad and corn on the cob - washed down with cold beer, then topped it off with the most delicious strawberries dipped in chocolate. (We're storing up fat to live on while we're camping for the next 3 months!)

And so to bed...

Looks like you're having a delightful time. You need to post a photo of you playing your concertina!

For some reason I didn't get an email notification of your first two blog entries so I've only just caught up with what you've been doing.

Well done, Mum, for beating me to post a comment!!
