We start off after a laid back morning and a good breakfast to Western Market. The building facade and internals look magnificent and rather out-of-place set amidst the steel towers that tear through the sky. We learn, once inside, that this place served as the exchange point for China Silk during the good ol days. There were several merchants with wares and rolls of China Silk including wool n silk inlaid material for suits. pricey, but slick.

We moved on to Hollywood Street (a.k.a Antiques Street) to find row after row of stores that housed antiques (mostly Chinese) ranging from small fung shui trinkets to large statues and jade figurines. Time spent well window-shopping.

Thambu gets a bit tired with this and we stop for lunch. Post-meal, since the mid-day weather was quite mild, we strolled through Hong Kong Park and the HK Zoological & Botanical Gardens. The zoo was quite small, but really well maintained. Of particular interest, were the pair of huge Orangutans and a burmese python. Junior cools off in the children's play area and we sit it out for an hour or more.

We then hopped a rather long, but scenic shoreline bus drive to Stanley Place which is on the southern part of HK Island. Stanley was a markedly different, less crowded and very pleasant waterfront area with a decent mix of tourists and locals.

The Stanley Plaza housed the HK Maritime Museum and a wharf. I refer to it in the past tense since the museum was being would down with two days of our visit, relocated to within the city (why on earth would they move it out of this lovely and very relevant location ?). Stanley Plaza was also slated to be closed for a month or more for renovation. Did not certainly look like it needed one.

We hopped the shuttle bus back to the City side to be greeted by a steady drizzle. The walk back to the hotel was pleasant with the rain ceasing and a good chill in the wind.
