Situated on the rue Saint Laurent, like 90% of the other pizzerias of Grenoble, Le Petit Rocher is a cozy little pizzeria. With a decent menu of pizzas and calzones, as well as salads and pasta dishes, this restaurant has many choices for even the pickiest of eaters. Not to mention, the view to the kitchen is open onto the restaurant, so if you really want to know how your food is being prepared, you can easily sneak a peak as the chef makes your entree of choice.

The downside to this little pizzeria is unfortunately the service. Maned, or should I say "wo"maned, by one server, a lady in her 40s, the service is a bit slow. However, as you watched this woman glide from table to table, you could easily see that she loved her job and did it without complete and absolute proficiency. Not a single mistake, every request answered, she even joined in small talk with what appeared to be regular or familiar diners.

And on my personal menu for the evening, I chose a fire-oven pizza "Du Sud" comprised of tomatoes, onions, peppers and three cheeses, including a giant slice of goat's cheese that was placed smack-dab in the middle of my pizza, warmed and melting completely into every layer. mmmm complete cheese bliss.

And the crust, was a nice hearty crust, not too thick, not too thin, it was a nice balance and a good flour-based flavor. Luckily for me, my crust was crunchy, yet soft; cooked just right. However, some of my friends were not as fortunate, and had a more soft, under-cooked crust. What are the chances?

And the decor is nothing too exciting. Just a classic and warm feeling place, with a stone wall on one side and in the rear, a fake plastered rock wall to appear as if the restaurant was built directly into the hillside that lies directly behind the rue Saint Laurent.

In my opinion, it's a winner. Pizza and ambiance are great, just be sure you have 2 hours to spare for your meal though, this is not a restaurant for a quick bite and go!
