We got a text from our cousin Janine warning us about the wildfires that are ripping through L.A, so we have changed our route to her place slightly by avoiding the coast where most of the action is taking place. When we looked out of the RV this morning, the sun was glowing really orange from all the smoke in the atmosphere. As we drove towards L.A we could see more and more smoke, but no sign of flames, thank goodness. We got to Janine's place in Rancho Santa Margarita, which is a very pretty area, at about 2pm. It was neat to catch up with her & Bruce, and Kate enjoyed playing with their cute twin girls! We headed out again at 4pm to drive to San Diego, and that's when we really got an idea of the seriousness of the wildfires, as we pretty much drove in smoke most of the way, with the sun turning a violent orange/red. We are staying down by the ocean in San Diego, so I don't think we'll be affected by the fires, other than the smoke.
