We had great intentions today of getting packed up early and hitting the road, but with Janine cooking us an excellent breakfast, it just seemed easier to take it nice and slow.
After breakfast it was time to start the mission of loading up the car with our 8 suitcases and carry-on bags. Well we did come with 4 suitcases, so 8 is only 100% more. We managed to get them all into the car and after some family photos with the Olivers, by 10am it was time to get onto the interstate for the 600km drive to San Diego.

We only made it as far as 1km when we popped into a Khols store to check out some cheap clothes. I got two tee-shirts for under $3 each and I also got a nice pair of Reboks on special for $25 – and I then got another 15% off that! Now it was nearing 11am and we hadn't even started driving!

Stopped for lunch at a Flying Js truck stop, the Wendys out the front was totally packed (it's the end of Thanksgiving so heaps of people are driving home) but we went out to the 'proper' Flying J restaurant and it was almost empty. Much better food, and again so much more than we could eat.

On the way to California passed through another massive wind farm - not as big as the one the other day, but since you drove through the middle of it, that just made it that much more impressive.

We've booked a more expensive hotel for our last two nights in the US – it has two king-sized beds, a heated pool, hot breakfast included and a free shuttle to Legoland. Most importantly the hotel has a 95% good rating on tripadvisor.com. Since Legoland charges $12 for parking we can justify spending the extra money just a little.

American Pet Peeve: Toilet doors in public restrooms that are only to size – what, are loo doors so expensive over here that the powers-that-be have to save money by putting embarrassingly short doors on their stalls? And if the doors aren't short, they have huge gaps between the door and frame so that you still feel exposed to every person in the bathroom!
Arrived at the hotel around 6pm – gained an extra hour when we went over a time zone change – so at least a reasonably short driving day today....tomorrow, Legoland!
Bring on the roller coasters...
