Yummy breakfast this morning with the State of Texas shaped waffles – heh heh. Naturally Fred, Josh & I had to sample them!
Hit the road by 9am and drove straight to Wilcox, Arizona where we had a rather disappointing lunch at a local Burger Joint called 'Carters' – cost us $25 for the four of us, and that was 3 small burgers (tiny by U.S size standards), 2 lots of fries, 1 soda & 1 milkshake. Not to worry. On the road again we had been seeing billboard signs since just out of El Paso advertising 'The Thing' at exit 322 on the Arizona Interstate, with hints that it could be an extraterrestrial and some spooky eyes in picture also...
Of course us being us, we just had to go there and pay out $3.50 entry for all of us to go and see 'it'... after following some yellow footprints through two big sheds out the back with some weird ,
quirky, interesting and just plain odd exhibits (like life-sized carved wooden people in a torture chamber...) we finally found it...an old mummy/skeleton (not sure if genuine, ewww) in a glass box.
Still, right up our alley and glad we stopped.
Once nearing Tuscan we started to see some Saguaro cactus (the ones you see in cartoons and Westerns that are tall with arms sticking upright like a bank teller in a holdup) and the closer we got to the Saguaro National Park the more we saw – fields of them and covering the rocky hills too. Took a few photos of them and with the kids posing beside them, and then onwards to Phoenix, and the Oliver family!
