Its not really a camp, because she is the only elephant, and they consider her more of a pet than anything else.
Pan Waat is 35 years old and she is a sweatpea. We were able to ride her directly on her back for over an hour, while her mahout (elephant trainer) walked beside us. It was so fun!
It was kind of ackward to ride her at first, but after a bit, we got the hang of it! It was crazy balancing on her shoulders and feeling her ears slap against our legs.
When we rode her in the river, thats when things got a bit crazy! She would play with us by throwing us in the river! Then, she would pretend to let us back onto her and after we climbed back on her, she would dump us all over again!
It was all a game for her. And its hard climbing on top! We would get up by climbing her leg and then she would make a loud noise from her trunk and dunk us back in the water. Very silly elephant. We got dumped about 9 times. She would even suck up water and spray it all over us. We loved it.
We then got back on her and rode the rest of the way home: not before our mahout got all excited by some mushrooms he found growing from her old dung. HE said, "OH OH OH! Happy Mushroom!!!" He was stoked the rest of the walk... :D
After the ride, they let us clean up in the natural hot springs on the water. A great day!!!!!!!!!
