The Streets are narrow and busy. Full of verdures, motor scooters, dogs, horses, cars and children selling bracelets. Petrol is sold in bottles of Absolute Vodka bottles randomly from vendor to vendor. The sidewalks are falling apart and the sewer grates must be avoided by all means for they are loose and falling into themselves.
Walking along in Bali, my regret is that I am just a backpacker and cant buy anything because of space and weight. Furniture and household items are so beautiful (and only pennies on the dollar: from gorgeous lamps to one of a kind glass mosaic sinks - Bali has everything. We can though, buy some clothes, so Mathew gets some board shorts and i get a couple dresses for $30,000 RP/each - which comes out to about $3/a piece!
But this day, we walk and walk and walk. Trying to figure out where exactly we are and whats there to do.
We eventually book one of those massages that is being offered to us about every 6 people we walk by. We decide to "go all out" and book the 2 of us a 3 hour spa treatment: 1 hr massage, 1 hr hair treatment, 1 hr facial and a pedicure and manicure - all for the 2 of us for $60! (life can be pretty good here. The spa was beautiful!) :D :D. The walk back on the beach was splendid as well.
The following day, we get brave and rent a motorbike (a scooter)! OMG. That was the craziest thing ever. Pretty much, the rules of the road is this:
1. The biggest gets the right away
2. You can fit as many vehicles side by side in one lane that you can possibly fit.
3. If its faster for you to get where you are going by driving on the opposite side of the road, then of course, that is what you must do.
4. Stoplight? We don't need no stinken stoplight!
So, after getting frazzled, lost and bewildered, we get off the bike confused and a bit shooken up. We decide that our feet do just fine :).

watch out for elephants!!
I'm glad you guys got spa treatments before tempting fate via a scooter ride through Bali. At least you learned the rules of the road quickly. I didn't think they had rules!
I love your pictures.
Have fun!
