Where I stayed
Turns out, he used to play professional football here in Australia for 15 years. Now, he owns a web design company. He says we can come and go as we please - so we spent the day at Bondi Beach. Pretty nice beach - the sand is textured exactly like sugar granules - pretty perfect, if u ask me. Everyone is surfing on short boards, but it seems like a place for long boards: small waves .... When we get back to Peter's place, he buys us a couple gourmet pizzas for dinner. Turns out, everyone in town owes Peter more than one favor ( he builds them websites and such) and he is so nice that most the time he lets them pay him in food. How do u like that. Does this guy have stories: like getting drunk, tearing off his clothes and running into the narliest beach in Australia and then needing a rescue team
The next morning, Peter drove us a few miles south down the coast. He said we must NOT miss this hike, so he drops us off, for us to walk our way back. Wow was he right! Amazing views, gorgeous day. We start just past Coogee beac. many many beaches and each beach has a salt-water pool made along the sides of them. There is Mckenzie bay and this area where natural "baths' were formed. Also, a memorial made for the Aussies that dies in the Bali bombings a few years ago. Made us think a bit, since we were going there in a couple days the beaches and cliffs were beautiful. We even walked through a cliff-side cemetery. We made it back to Peter's place and packed a night-sack to hang out with Patrick and his friends that night. It turned out, that Patrick was with Matt and Chris already and that the Brothers only lived one block from where we were staying.
So, we started at 4pm: bottle of whine and 2 mini kegs of heineken.
We cure our hangover at Bondi beach. We spent the entire day there. and WHOA - the beach was PACKED - "what is this? standing room only?" wall to wall people. We slept most the day.
Waiting for Peter to get back home, we ate dinner at "The Flying Squirrel". Nice ambiance - awful food. We ordered coconut honey prawns:looked nice but then mathew bites into his and says, "are these stuffed with something?" i say, "no...." yeah. ack!!! gross!!!1 he ate the whole head, eyeballs and all and then i sliced into mine, and the guts poured out all over my plate. YACK. Appetite gone. We finally make it back to Peters and warm up over some pretty funny Aussie and English mini series.
The next night, we have a BBQ at Peters and pack for the next day (flying to Indonesia)
THINGS WE LEARNED In AUSTRALIA:
1. Aussies cook all their meat well-done
2. They don't believe in salt - EVER
3. They are very friendly and know everything about American politics - really, they do.
4. Food is well.... mediocre.
5. POMES: a term that the Aussies call Brits, which translates to: Prisoners of Mother England ..... isnt that an Aussie too? :D
