Day 5

States covered: Michigan (new for Owen (#5) and Abby (#27)

Countries covered: Canada and US (no incidents at US Border entry)

Miles Traveled: 269

Weather: Very nice

Meltdowns:  Owen 2, Abby 0, Dad 1 (in the battle of Paul v. Pack 'n Play, Paul did not win)

Highlights: CN Tower, Ontario Science Museum

Abby quote of the day: "Daddy doesn't work here, but he has a cart." While giggling hysterically at the sight of Paul bringing all our luggage in on a cart. (Our little princess is apparently used to a bell man already...we are in trouble.)

Trivia answer from yesterday: Cousins Quinn, Eli and Heidi are Ann's second cousins, once removed and for the bonus, they are Abby's third cousins.  Guess you guys haven't warmed up to the trivia yet, no winner.

Trivia question du jour:  What is on the back of the Canadian $5 bill?  (The Meyers or Abby's JUK friend Quinn should really get this one.)

Bonus trivia question from Arby's in Flint, MI: Ford had two inspirations for the name of the famous Mustang...one was the obvious colt, but what was the other?  (C'mon car buffs)

We had a busy day touring around Toronto today.  First we went up the CN Tower.  It was very cool.  Abby really enjoyed it and even walked on the glass floor on the top.  Owen slept the whole time and when he woke up back at our hotel Abby said "Owen, you slept the whole way up the CN Tower and it was WONDERFUL!" (Runner up quote of the day).

Then we headed to the Ontario Science Museum.  This was a bit of nostalgia for Ann since she remembered liking it as a child, but it was unrecognizable from Ann's visit circa 1979.  Abby loved the Kidspark area the most.

Then we hit the road and the horrible Toronto traffic, but made it across the border without incident and parked ourselves in Flint, MI for the night.

A few observations of Canada from our brief visit:
- Toronto traffic is terrible and parking is crazy expensive
- People really do say "Eh" a lot, "Eh?"
- Even obscure Bryan Adams songs still play on Canadian stations (Ann didn't mind since she was a big fan in the '80s)

Also an observation for our frugal/freegan (you know who you are) friends and family - we might be nuts to take 2 kids under 4 on this trip, but we are saving money left and right since kids under 4 get in free almost everywhere (except ND football games, shame on them) and we didn't pay the hefty admissions for either kid at the CN Tower or Science Museum - SCORE!

 Until tomorrow...

Looks like everyone is doing well. Yay, Abby on the photos! Re. triviia-I got the first one about 2nd cousin once removed, but didnt know the other part...I think it's an animal vs. person on the back of the bill...I was there when the Mustang came out but the only thing Ford publicized was the horse, dont remember the other...Here's one for you re. Flint, "What Roger Moore documentary was inspired by the decay in his home town of Flint?"....You're missing rain, rain and more rain here...

Ann and Paul -
Looks like you are having a wonderful time! My question is for Paul - socks or no sock yet? Open question - how does the Candian breakfast compare to the American breakfast?

For anyone who thinks you guys are crazy for trekking all that way for a fair when there's one in Montgomery County, let me tell you what you missed: rain. Lots of rain. Running from tent to tent, trying to find shelter rain. Also screaming, because Matthew decided that he was afraid of all of the animals in all of the tents, so we kept going back out into the rain. Oh, and the boys were afraid of the rides, too. We kept running into crazy friends like us who had dragged their little ones to the fair in the rain. You were smart to leave town! It looks like you're having a great time -- enjoy!

you guys are amazing! I feel like the irresponsible hairdresser of Abby with those long bangs, Anne! Is there a monument to "Roger and Me" in Flint? (Did I just win the trivia quiz? Rabbits, Pets or Meat, that's all I have to say). Tell me there is! What an incredible journey you guys are on. And this blog is the coolest...Loving the meltdown totals...all doing WAY better then we would!!!
Looks like a fantastic trip...will be glued...oxoxoxo

Michael - I am embarrassed to say that in Toronto we ate breakfast at a TImothy's coffee and did not experience a full canadian breakfast. Not sure about Paul's socks, but he appears to have dispensed with shaving every day!

Chelsea - Too funny. So embarrassed about Abby's bangs. I just told my friends at dinner tonight before reading your post that our friends/hairdresser (who Abby informed everyone was Chelsea) would be horrified at Abby's bangs. We are contemplating an emergency mommy road cut (yikes)!
