So we've been home almost a whole week. Its hard to believe. My sleep schedule is back to normal, I've stopped bowing and saying "Origato" to sales people and waiters, but I still keep kicking off my shoes. Some things are here to stay, I guess.
One of the biggest challenges involves the 1900 pictures I took on our trip. I'm still in the middle of getting them organized and imported, and just the thought of beginning to edit them makes me a little dizzy and nauseous.
While I've been trying to sort them out, however, I've been looking back through them. We really did make a mad dash around Japan. I would love to go back someday and spend more time in certain places, really get my fingernails dirty with the culture, especially in the more rural places.
Overall, I loved the country of Japan and its people. There were times when the "spectacle" feeling of being watched all the time got frustrating, but my general impression was that of an immensely hospitable and respectful people. Were I to go back, I would try to learn as much Japanese as I could beforehand, in order to break down some of the isolation.
Either way, I'm glad to be home! Thank you all for following along. I've had a great time writing, and I hope you've had fun reading. Until the next adventure, stay happy and healthy!
