Had a bit of a drive today but finally arrived at Betty and Rusty's. We'd been looking forward to this since we booked the horse-riding! We'd even bought stetsons in Tombstone to wear on the ride (now that's attention to detail!!)
Rusty is well over 80 years old and still fancies himself a bit of a ladies man. He sounds like he's been married numerous times, and Betty doesn't let him get away with anything (remember how Nan used to be with Grandad? Put that in Cowboy form and you're nearly there!!).
We were given our horses, mine was called Scarlet and Neil's was called Buck. His was quite laid back and just plodded along happily (a bit like Neil!). Mine had quite a personality and was constantly hungry (yes, a bit like me!) We went for a 2 hr ride which was really good. WE followed a trail through the desert that had a few hills in it to keep it interesting. My horse tried to bite any that tried to overtake her.............lets hope that's not what I'll be doing when I get in the car!!
When we got back to the camp, Betty had cooked us steaks on an open fire, with jacket potatos and salad. It was gorgeous, just what we needed after the ride. Betty had also made a chocolate cake, from scratch and cooked it on the fire. It was served warm and was delicious!!
After that we drank beer around the camp fire whilst Betty and Rusty sang cowboy songs. It was a perfect evening.
