What a special treat Isla Boca Brava turned out to be!  A small little island in the Golfo do Chiriqui that is inhabited with a few homes, one hostel and a ridiculous number of howler monkeys!  To reach the island you need to take a taxi, bus, jeep taxi and boat... it sounds more difficult than it actually is- as long as you have a bit of luck and some helpful bus and taxi drivers!

The island has some very easy trails to follow that lead to isolated little beaches... such heaven!  I am really enjoying the hikes; checking out the colorful birds in the morning is great- but the best part of the hikes are checking out the howler monkeys.  They are everywhere!!!  I am convinced that they enjoy watching me as much as I enjoy watching them.  The smaller monkeys seem to be more curious than the adults and will often swing down the branches to check me out... sometimes within a few feet of my face!

I made a little friend here already... brown and furry but not a monkey- he is a cute little dog I have named Stanton!  He followed me... or maybe he led me to the beach the first day I arrived.  I am not sure why but he sticks to me like glue... sleeps in front of my door every night and follows me everywhere I go.  I have no idea who he belongs to- but for the time being he is my best buddy!   He loves going to the beach and playing in the water... but I think his favorite activity is chasing the crabs on the beach and digging crazy, big holes in the sand trying to catch them!!!  Silly Stanton!

I am loving my time here on the island and once again I find myself wishing I had some additional reading material so I could stay a bit longer!!!  Unforotunately with my last book already read, a deserted island isnīt the most entertaining place to be alone... so I am heading back to the mainland tomorrow, but not before I take one last hike to say goodbye to the howler monkeys!
