There's something a little bit less amazing about having all that stuff with you when you try to get it on and off several busy trains. Why did I bring so much stuff??
Train ride up was fairly uneventful, it just took a long time. I always thought that Inverness was a long way North, but I still had 4 hours on the train past Inverness. I did spend a lot of those 4 hours thinking, 'It's an awful long way back down....'
Passed the time by reading and staring out the window, intrigued by all the people who like to wave at trains. Is it the train or the people they're waving at?
On the cycle from Wick to John O' Groats (about 17 miles) I spent a bit more time wondering what on earth I'd let myself in for. Passed a few B&B's and thought maybe I could treat myself at some point. Then I remembered how much I'd spent on all the kit I was carrying with me that was slowing me down. No B&B's yet!
Chatted to a girl at the campsite who had just finished the trip from Land's End in 2 weeks and 2 days. Wow. I'm going for the more leisurely approach. And the scenic route. Why not, I've got the time to spare. There, that's my excuses done!
Time to get a move on.
