I know that we are all here for the same reason, but Antigua is a place we should have visited five years or so ago. In certain places there seems to be more tourists than locals, and as you know - that is not what we enjoy!

Yesterday we arrived and spent the rest of our day walking around the city, chilling out in the main park called Parque Centrale and looking inside the rather unimpressive cathedral. We walked and got totally lost in the small narrow streets, which are pretty and cobblestoned, the houses are all different colours in colonial style and in the background stand the three volcanoes that surround the city.
We eventually visited La Merced, which is a stunning church with the most beautiful detail on the facade, at the time we arrived a service was on, so we stood for awhile at the back and then moved on back into the city.

Our hostel is really nice and they allow us to use the kitchen, so last night we headed to the main market, which was as always so much fun. This market is a locals thing though, and we came away with fresh pasta, a bag of tomatoes, onions, bananas, mangoes and sardines so that we could cook up a storm in the kitchen last night!!

Today, Matt visited the Museum on the main square which houses weapons from the colonial days, this afternoon we shall grab some lunch and head to the Church of San Francisco and a glorious colonial house.

We have an early start tomorrow - 4am - Honduras here we come!

Hugs
